Activity 7: Velocity Problem Set

Activity 7.10

Read section 2.2 and 2.3 in the OpenStax Textbook.Remember the definitions of the following terms :

  • Average Velocity   =  Change in Displacement /  Time
  • Average Speed  = Distance Traveled / Time
  • Instantaneous Velocity = the Velocity an object has at an instant in time (.ie what a speedometer says)
  • Instantaneous Speed = The absolute value of Instantaneous Velocity.

Mathematically rearranging the first  equation above gives us the following relationships:
  • Change in Displacement  =  Average Velocity  X Time
  • Time = Change in Displacement  / Average Velocity

With these relationships in mind complete this Speed Problem Set (ask your teacher for a printed copy).
When done compare your answers against this key .
